The ash tree has long been an icon of the landscape of England and Iowa. In fact, the tree's common name comes from Old English aesc. Our ESB pays homage to this hardy tree that has seen better days and hopefully will again in our lifetime. Don't be fooled by the term "Extra Special Bitter (ESB." English bitters offer an intriguing balance of malts and hops. The interplay between the crystal malts and the noble English hops delivers a sweet, yet slightly bitter tingly taste sensation. We used traditional base malts from Great Britian (Maris Otter and Golden Promise). The English yeast imparts a slight mineral character and some fruity notes, giving an overall flavor that reminds some of biscuits and marmalade.
Enjoy a glass in the taproom and don't forget to grab a 4-pack to enjoy at home! Distribution across Iowa will begin on Monday, March 9th.
